ILLEGAL DOWNLOADING : HADOPI AND YOU

You can consider that you are downloading illegally when you are sharing files on the web without the consent of copyright holder by using software. In France the HADOPI Law or Law on Creation and Internet aims to avoid sharing of files when it infringes the author’s rights. This law of June 2009 creates a “High authority for broadcasting works and protection of rights on the Internet”. It has been followed then by HADOPI II that focuses more on hacking by electronic means.

Origins of HADOPI: where is the law born? Against what international problem is it supposed to fight?

Controversy of HADOPI’s Law

ð    What are the opinions of net surfers? Are they for or against HADOPI?

ð    Why HADOPI isn’t unanimous in France?
On the side I understand the distress of the industries of the entertainment in front of illegal downloading. But for me on the other hand it is not because we prevent a person from downloading that she is going to buy more. Moreover many people abuse of the download and they will not necessarily be punished.

The Generation Y toward illegal downloading and HADOPI:

ð    What is the rate of young French people who download illegally?

ð    Is the HADOPI Law efficient to the young generation? Did they reduce the frequency of their illegal downloading after the passing of the bill?

ð    What are the different solutions found by surfers to continue to hack movies and music content?

Conclusion:

To conclude the illegal downloading is still an arm wrestling between the young generation, the government and also all those artists who signed petition against illegal downloading. Lately we notice since the passing of the new bill Hadopi the young generation become more “stubborn”.  But up until now the future of this law and the illegal downloading is very uncertain. The hope is to find a balance between the 2 parts.
TEST: What kind of downloader are you?

1 - How much do you download songs, videos and other media on the Internet?
♥ Often
Sometimes
■ Rarely
▲ Never

2- What does "downloading" represent for you?
♥ An efficient solution to get music and films for free
It's useful, but you have to be moderated
■ It's a thievery, but I recognize that I have already downloaded
▲ Nothing, I don't feel concerned with it

3 - Do you think that the law HADOPI is useful?
♥ Absolutely not: it punishes people who illegally download, but it doesn't give them other possibility to get their files
Only the biggest downloaders are concerned
■ Yes, It can help to reduce the number of illegal downloading
▲ I not concerned with downloading, and also with HADOPI

4- What other alternative could you suggest in order to limit the polemics and make everybody agree?
♥ Legalizing free downloading instead of seeing it as a problem
Coming CDs and DVDs prices very down
■ We can pay our downloading with a help of the government (we pays 50% of the price, and it also pays 50%)
▲ No idea or other(s) solution(s) ?

5- The law has been voted in France. Personally, do you notice a change on your own behavior or on the member of your circle's?
♥ No, it's like the law had never been voted
People know the risk, but it doesn't make the majority think before continue downloading
■ Yes, people are afraid and they try to limit their downloads
▲I don't pay attention, I'm not concerned to be afraid

RESULTS - You have a majority of:

♥ : What a geek you are ! Go quickly buy a life for yourself!
: You are aware. But is your awareness really useful if you continue to do something even if you know that it is bad?
■ : Well, you are reasonable and seems to be a good citizen for your country.
▲ : Hi, we are in 2010 ! Oh God, did you ever seen a computer since you were born

After numerous postponements Hadopi law is now really launched. This law is suposed (according to the decree n2009-669 dated from the June, 12 2009) to promote the distribution and protection of creative works on the internet. It has created many polemics since it has been first suggested. So, what is actually Hadopi and is it really usefull and efficient?

  1. Hadopi creation

THE VIRTUAL UNIVERSITY - Baur, Tony

Igor TONY
Lovelyn Baur
LEA 2
Group 6

The virtual university.
Introduction.
The virtual university is a different university, with different ways and methods of work, but which provides as the classic university a higher education and a degree, with marks, duties, courses and so on.
The virtual and the classic university system have exactly the same aim, which is to provide a higher education, a diploma and to allow people to start the post-university life with a grade.
The virtual university works thanks to all the methods allowing us to communicate instead of our physical presence with mails and video meetings for example.  It works thanks to the Internet.
It allows us to attend to courses, write and send our duties, be marked and so graduated.
In fact, if you compare, virtual university is like homeschooling. Even if there are different reasons for you to be homeschooled or to attend to a virtual class, and even if it’s not the same level of education, age of people and other facts, it’s the same principles, have the same advantages and disadvantages.

Questions:
  1. I want you to google “virtual university” and say us what’s the link allowing you to be better informed about it.

  1. Look at this website about the Canadian Virtual University. The CVU is not like one institution working alone and providing what we call an “e-ducation”.  The home page contains the information about the organization. Tell us how it really is.

  1. I’ve compared homeschooling and e-learning. I’ve found an article about advantages and disadvantages of home learning.

According to your own mind about the virtual education, did you find some common characteristics between the two?

  1. Let’s talk about the employers’ mind about online degrees. We were wondering if online graduated people had the same chances to be employed as those from traditional colleges. And I get an answer right here. How do you explain it?

Just a little conclusion:
In fact as you may have guessed we are currently attending to a virtual class.
We send our subjects by mail to Mrs. Baird and it allows her to see what we are doing and to mark us. We can see what others wrote, answer to their questions thanks to a blog created by the teacher. And as you all see, there’s no need to be physically present and to see each other.
Now we have to imagine how it is to study that way during the whole year, and for all your subjects.
Now answer this question:
Could you attend to a virtual class? Why?
